Foaling can be an exciting time for horse owners and breeders but it is also a time when your mare and foal require special management and extra veterinary attention.
The University of Sydney’s Camden Equine Centre is home to a team of leading and internationally renowned equine specialists with extensive broodmare and foaling experience.
Our team is here to ensure you get the best possible outcome for your animals.
In the lead up to the birth, our team can provide a broad range of services from monitoring of high risk pregnancies, to tailored nutritional plans, and vaccination and worming schedules.
This service can be provided either in hospital at Brownlow Hill or at your own premises via our fully equipped ambulatory service.
The first several hours in a foal’s life are critical to its survival. Having a vet present during this time gives your foal the best possible chance.
Common illnesses of newborn foals include prematurity, sepsis, perinatal asphyxia syndrome, neonatal isoerythrolysis, diarrhea, and umbilical infections.
These life-threatening diseases require urgent and immediate veterinary attention.
The Camden Equine Centre offers a fully equipped neonatal intensive care unit, alongside high level clinical pathology, anaesthesia, imaging and surgical services, with specialist staff who will diagnose the issue and immediately implement the necessary veterinary treatment.
